S2, Ep #5 : Resources + Reads to Grow in Faith
I wanted to take a moment today to share some encouraging reads that helped me grow in my faith when I was first seeking guidance and God’s truth in my life. I was in my early 20’s and as much as I would seek the Bible, I found these books below to be very helpful in understanding where I was in my faith journey and where I wanted to be. I hope this list of books helps you find some positive reads to get your heart and mind into the coming months. I would also love to hear any books that have helped you along the way also!
Crazy Love by Francis Chan - it was a staple as the first book I picked up after a church going friend recommended it. Easy to read, insightful and kick started the fire inside to seek the Lord more.
Forgotten God by Francis Chan- I remember this book to be a great piggy back off of Crazy Love and one that I really needed.
Captivating by John and Stasi Eldridge : if you’re a woman of any age or season, this book is for you! A telling and true look into who God created women to be and how our God given traits can be strengthened and used to better ourselves and His Kingdom.
The gender alternative to Captivating is ‘Wild at Heart’ by John Eldridge.
Sex God by Rob Bell was a crucial book for me as I got back into my faith and sought after God and His will for my life, convicting and opening my eyes to the way I had been living.
Radical by David Platt is all about taking back your faith from the American Dream and what living by faith looks like. Great read!
The Best Yes by Lysa TerKeurst was a God sent about 4 years ago now when I was overwhelmed, over worked and exhausted with working non-stop and collaborating with brands to no avail and no success. I was saying yes to everything, not allowing the true ‘Best Yes’s’ to come to fruition. This book taught be to take each decision and weigh the costs and discern if it’s a God ‘yes’ or just another people pleasing ‘yes’.
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis is one that I have still to finish but love his perspective and writings.
The Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer is hands down a book you need in your life to renew your mind and learn the tactics of the enemy against your mind and your heart. It was a necessary book for me as I battled spiritual warfare years ago and needed to break free but is just a great read with powerful take-aways, verse, and encouragement to over fear, anxiety, stress, worry and anything else that battles against our minds.
Godmothers by Lisa Bevere is a new book I am about to read and couldn’t have come at a better time. My whole life I have desired female role models to instill confidence, hope and knowledge in the word into my own life, aside from my own mother, and am so thankful Lisa is doing and encouraging just that. For us to help the future generations discover their hope, faith and life in Christ. I look forward to diving in!
